Peppol

A standardized and seamless way to exchange electronic business documents

More and more companies and organizations are moving toward standardized e-invoicing and electronic document exchange. A central part of this development is Peppol – an international standard and network that makes it easy and secure to send and receive business documents digitally.

What is Peppol?

Peppol stands for Pan-European Public Procurement OnLine and is a global network for the electronic exchange of business documents such as invoices, orders, and credit notes. The purpose is to standardize e-commerce and e-invoicing in Europe and internationally, making it easy to send and receive e-invoices regardless of which ERP system you use, while reducing the need for customized files, formats, and integration solutions. Within Peppol, a common document format is used (often Peppol BIS Billing 3.0) and communication takes place through a network of certified Access Points.

How does Peppol work?

The process is both simple and secure:

  1. You send the invoice from your ERP/financial system to your Peppol Access Point.
  2. The Access Point translates and sends the document through the Peppol network.
  3. The recipient retrieves the invoice through their own Access Point.

Both sender and receiver are identified by a unique Peppol ID, which functions as a digital address within the network.

How Peppol connect to Infor M3

If you use Infor M3 to manage finance, orders, logistics, or procurement, there are several ways to connect your system to Peppol. Infor M3 can easily be connected to the Peppol network by generating invoice data that is then transformed into Peppol BIS 3.0 – the standardized XML format for e-invoicing in Peppol.

This transformation can be done either directly within M3’s integration flows or by an external Peppol partner. Once the file is in Peppol BIS 3.0 format, it is sent through a certified Access Point, which delivers the document to the recipient’s Peppol ID.

If you want to understand how this works in practice, both functionally and technically, we’re happy to explain more.
